Damon Lindelof Reportedly Developing a STAR WARS Movie for Lucasfilm

Damon Lindelof (Watchmen, The Leftovers) is reportedly developing a Star Wars film project for Lucasfilm. The news comes from Jeff Sneider of The Ankler, and he shared in a tweet:

"EXCLUSIVE via @TheAnkler: I'm hearing that Damon Lindelof, the creator of WATCHMEN and the co-creator of LOST and THE LEFTOVERS, is working on a new STAR WARS movie.”

Lindelof has been doing some great work in TV the past few years. Some of his more recent film work includes The Hunt, but before that he worked on projects such as World War Z, Cowboys & Aliens, Prometheus, Star Trek: Into Darkness, and more.

For the most part, I’ve enjoyed what Lindelof has delivered in the past, and I’d be curious to see what he is planning for a Star Wars film. Sneider goes on to say that he isn't aware of the plot of the movie, or if any writers or a director are attached.

Back in 2015, Lindelof talked about his interest in working on a Star Wars movie, saying, “I'm committed to a space of trying to make something more original. [One] that doesn't come with the intense focus of 'Jesus, Lindelof, don't fuck this up, too.' If it's an original piece, I fucked up my own thing, which I've also been accused of, mind you. But it would be immensely distracting to the fans, for my name to be involved in the franchise at this stage."

In another interview with Fandom back in 2020, Lindelof said that he’s be up for developing a Star Wars project if he wouldn’t be blamed for ruining it. He went on to say, "And, at some point, but certainly not in the immediate future, I feel like I would love to do something in the Star Wars universe. Maybe a decade from now when I would no longer be blamed for ruining it. That would be a hoot."

Well, it looks like the screenwriter is getting his shot at Star Wars! I have no idea if it will ever see the light of day, like all of the other Star Wars film projects that have been in and out of development over the years.

What do you think about Lindelof developing a Star Wars movie? Do you think he’d be able to pull off something great?
