Dan Aykroyd Talks GHOSTBUSTERS 3 and Says It's "Warm, Heartfelt, and Quite Scary"

Earlier this year, fans were surprised to learn that a new Ghostbusters movie was in the works from director Jason Rietman. That film will be set in the same universe as the two original films, and it will in a way serve as a sequel.

Fans have been wondering what we can expect from this movie, and franchise star Dan Aykroyd had some interesting things to say about it. Things that will make you think about what kind of story the film will tell.

While the movie is said to be a continuation of the first films, Aykroyd teased that is will be “so different” from those movies. He also explained that the movie will take on modern issues in a "warm, heartfelt, and... quite scary" way. While talking to  660 City News, the actor said:

“Ivan Reitman’s son Jason has written a beautiful script, I can’t say too much about it but it’s going to get made and hopefully there’ll be some familiar faces. It’s so different from even the first and second (film). This just takes it to a new generation and a new direction that is so warm, heartfelt and indeed, quite scary when you confront some of the issues that are being discussed.”

Those are some intriguing words, and it’ll be interesting to see what Aykroyd means when we start seeing some actual stuff from the movie.

The film is said to have an Amblin-style feel, and it’s been reported that it will “focus on a family who moves back home to a small town. While there, they begin to ‘learn more about who they are and the secrets of the town itself.’”

The movie stars Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon, and McKenna Grace. There’s also a chance that the original cast could show up as well. I really hope that is the case. They better get Bill Murray back as Venkman!

Ghostbusters is slated to hit theaters on July 10th, 2020.
