Dan Trachtenberg to Direct a New Disney Movie Inspired by SLEEPING BEAUTY
Dan Trachtenberg has spent the past few years doing some seriously cool things with the Predator franchise, and now he’s turning his attention to one of Disney’s most famous fairy tales.
The filmmaker is set to direct an untitled original movie for Disney inspired by Sleeping Beauty, but this won’t be another live-action remake of the animated classic. The project is being developed as a new story that uses the fairy tale as its inspiration while heading in a completely different direction.
Plot details are currently being kept secret, but the project is still in early development and is expected to bring Trachtenberg’s filmmaking sensibilities to the material.
The movie also has no connection to Disney’s Maleficent films starring Angelina Jolie, so don’t expect this to be a continuation, spinoff, or companion piece to those movies.
Trachtenberg developed the story with Raya McClendon, while Alex Anfanger and Dan Schimpf are writing the screenplay.
Trachtenberg already has a strong relationship with Disney through 20th Century Studios and Hulu after helping revive the Predator franchise with Prey. He continued playing in that universe with Predator: Badlands and the animated Predator: Killer of Killers.
Trachtenberg is keeping busy elsewhere as well. He’s currently in pre-production on another top-secret movie for Paramount, with details on that project also being kept under wraps.
There’s still a lot we don’t know about his Sleeping Beauty-inspired Disney movie, but whatever Trachtenberg has cooked up, it’ll be interesting to see what kind of fairytale story he is looking to tell.
