Daniel Craig's NO TIME TO DIE Explored $600 Million Sale to Streaming Service
Daniel Craig’s latest and final James Bond outing, No Time To Die, had been slated for an April 2020 release, but after the pandemic hit one month before, the film saw several pushbacks, ultimately landing on an April 2021 release date. Of course, we will have to wait and see what the state of the world is to find out if even that release date will be possible, but for now, that’s where it sits.
Several films that had been set for theatrical release during the pandemic made the switch to streaming in an effort to get the films out for fans to view, but it hasn’t been such an easy decision for the big blockbuster films that were meant for big-screen viewing and the revenue that would be brought in by the theaters.
No Time To Die studio MGM says that the film was never considered for a streaming release, with a statement saying, “We do not comment on rumors. The film is not for sale. The film’s release has been postponed until April 2021 in order to preserve the theatrical experience for moviegoers,” but a report from Variety says “multiple insiders at rival studios and companies said that a possible Bond sale was explored overtly.” It goes on to say that the film actually was considered for sale, but only for the hefty price of $600 million.
This was clearly too much for any of the interested streaming services, but no harm, no foul. MGM may as well have tried to get that price, as not getting it has changed nothing with the film’s release date. Let’s just hope the pandemic doesn’t mess with it further. For now, No Time To Die is set to release on April 2, 2021.
Are you looking forward to seeing this film in theaters, or would you have been happy to watch it at home?
