Daniel Day-Lewis Comes Out of Retirement to Star in His Son’s Film ANEMONE
Three-time Academy Award-winning actor Daniel Day Lewis (The Last of the Mohicans, There Will Be Blood, Lincoln) announced his retirement upon finishing his last award winning film, Phantom Thread, in 2017.
This was a bummer to fans who have enjoyed his films and performances over the years, but as he has always chosen quality over quantity, it wasn’t incredibly surprising. But as it turns out, that may have only been a hiatus.
According to The Daily Mail, who spotted the actor on the set in of a new UK movie. Day-Lewis is sporting a handle bar mustache, can be seen riding a motorbike with Sean Bean during what the Mail says is the shooting of a scene.
The Mail says filming is taking place in Manchester and that a busy crew were in attendance for what they describe as an “action-packed scene.”
According to Variety, Day-Lewis is starring in Focus Features and Plan B’s upcoming film Anemone, which is being directed by his son, Ronan Day-Lewis. This is his directorial debut.
Daniel and Ronan co-wrote the film, which is described as “an exploration of the intricate relationships between fathers, sons and brothers as well as the dynamics of familial bonds.”
Daniel Day-Lewis will lead the cast of of the film and this is his first acting gig since 2017’s Phantom Thread, alongside Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley and Safia Oakley-Green.
The actor has always kept a low profile and eschewed the limelight. In a rare public appearance, he took part in an event for Martin Scorsese’s Killers Of The Flower Moon in January of this year. The filmmaker joked that he hoped to coax the actor out of retirement to make one more film.
