Daniel Radcliffe May Play GRAND THEFT AUTO Creator in BBC Drama

Though Daniel Radcliffe will forever be associated with the Harry Potter franchise — those movies were preeeeeety popular — the actor has since stepped out of the shadow of that character and went on to have an interesting and diverse career so far. And it sounds like he'll be diving into video games next, though not in the traditional sense.

THR reports that Radcliffe is in talks to play "Sam Houser, the British co-founder and president of Rockstar Games" and creator of the Grand Theft Auto games in a new BBC drama which is currently called Grand Theft Auto (though that title could change). We wrote about this a couple of weeks ago, but details were scarce; now we have a better idea of what exactly the show will be about.

The series will apparently be about the battle between Houser and Jack Thompson, a Miami lawyer who wanted to ban violence in video games.

Thompson was an unorthodox Florida attorney who already attacking media companies for pushing rap and sex onto the airwaves when he turned his attention to what he saw as an obsession of glorifying violence in the video game industry. GTA was one of his favorite targets. He was disbarred in 2008 for inappropriate behavior.

This sounds like a fascinating project, and with Radcliffe on board, I'm sure it will reach a much larger audience than it might have otherwise. Owen Harris, who has directed episodes of Misfits and Black Mirror, will be behind the camera on this one, and the role of Thompson hasn't been cast yet. We'll keep you posted when we hear any more, but in the meantime, are you interested in this movie?
