Daniel Radcliffe on His Post-HARRY POTTER Film Choices, and What It's Like to Play WEIRD AL in the Upcoming Biopic
Daniel Radcliffe will forever be known to fans as the boy who lived, aka Harry Potter. He perfectly portrayed the iconic book character across the eight-film saga, but has since grown up and shaken off the persona, showing the world that he will not be pigeonholed.
In a recent interview with Empire, ahead of the release of the film The Lost City, in which Radcliffe plays the maniacal villain, the actor opened up about his career path post-Potter, including playing music and comedy icon, Weird Al Yankovic. He said of his films:
“Weird sort of begets weird, and as soon as you do something like Horns, the guys who make Swiss Army Man are like, ‘Oh, okay, maybe he's into that.’ And then people see Swiss Army Man, and they're like, ‘Oh, Guns Akimbo.’ One thing leads to another and it keeps meaning I get to do random crazy stuff, which I'm always very happy with.”
Radcliffe has certainly taken on his fair share of weird roles. But it’s fun, knowing you’ll see something different from him with every project. He went on to talk about the upcoming Weird Al biopic, saying:
“Yeah, the Al Yankovic movie is one of the most...I will be genuinely heartbroken if it's not as good as I want it to be. It's one of the most fun things I've ever shot. It was unbelievably fast. It was shot so quickly that it kind of makes me go, ‘What are we doing on other films?’ That was a testament to being prepared, and our amazing director Eric Appel, and yeah, I can't wait for people to see it. It'll be a while. But I can't wait.”
I can’t wait either! I am a lifelong Weird Al fan, and I think Daniel Radcliffe is brilliant. It’s been a fun ride watching Radcliffe’s career evolve, and I look forward to each new role. The Lost City is in theaters now.
