Danny Boyle and Leonardo DiCaprio to Team up for STEVE JOBS Biopic?
Last week David Fincher dropped out of negotiations for Sony Pictures' Steve Jobs biopic. He and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin would have made an amazing team, but the studio is moving forward and looking to hire a new director. According to THR, that director might be Slumdog Millionaire and Sunshine director Danny Boyle, and apparently he's already reached out to Leonardo DiCaprio to possibly star in the film. The two talents previously worked together on The Beach.
There are no official deals set in place, but this would make a very interesting team. I like the idea of Fincher and Christian Bale making the movie more, though. It's not that I don't like Boyle's work because I do! I absolutely love it, but it's hard to imagine his kind of directing style for a movie like this. I also think DiCaprio is talented as hell, but I can't see him playing Jobs at all. That casting just doesn't make sense to me, but let's just see where this all goes.
The studio is apparently looking to get this film into production soon, and at this point it doesn't look like Fincher will be coming back to the negotiation table. It's a shame, but at least it looks like they might very well be getting an Academy Award-winning director to bring Jobs life to the big screen. I'm sure if he takes the gig, he'll give us a great film. I just really wanted Fincher to do it. I'll get over it.
The biopic is based on Walter Isaacson's bestselling authorized biography. That book was based on more than 40 interviews that the author had with Jobs, as well as interviews with friends, family, and colleagues.
The film itself is said to consist of three long scenes that feature the launches of some of Apple's most buzzed-about product launches, including the Mac, NeXT (after Jobs had left Apple), and the iPod.
