Danny Trejo Offers Update on MACHETE 3 Saying Robert Rodriguez is "Too Scared" Because He Was "Too Good In It"
Danny Trejo is still hoping that one day he will get to make a third Machete movie. The first two films in this grindhouse-style action franchise have been a lot of fun and in a recent interview with The A.V. Club, Trejo was asked for an update. He amusingly responded that director Robert Rodriguez is too scared to make the movie because he was too good in it:
“Please, text Robert Rodriguez. The world — I’ve been all over the world, and everybody is asking me about that. I think Robert got scared because I was just too good in it. I shined and [everybody] didn’t remember who the director was.”
If a third Machete movie gets made, it would take the badass character into space. The title of the film is Machete Kills Again… in Space. A teaser trailer for the film was shown at the end of the 2013 film Machete Kills.
Rodriguez previously talked about the film saying that they had to make it so that they could satisfy the fans:
"Danny calls me all the time. He films the whole audience that he's speaking to, and they're all saying 'Machete in Space!' And then he turns the phone around and looks at me and goes [Rodriguez mugs]. That's why I put a fake trailer for that on "Machete 2." To kind of satisfy you. 'Okay, this is pretty much what it would look like, but you can see it in two minutes rather than in two hours.' And it never satisfies them. It never satisfies them. So we have to do one."
Rodriguez went on to admit that he originally never intended to make Machete a feature film, but it was the big fan reaction that drove him to make it. He explained:
"They would bug us for five years: 'When's that movie coming out?' I said it was a fake trailer. 'No! But it looked real! When is it coming out?' So, we gotta make it for 'em. So five years later I made that movie. It wasn't meant to be a film. The audience just wanted it. So we have to give it to them. Because when someone wants something that bad ... I've never had that with any movie before. And now, everyone is still 'Machete in Space!' You can't give 'em enough!"
I have no idea when or if Trejo and Rodriguez will team up to make Machete Kills Again… in Space, but I’d much rather see Rodriguez make Alita: Battle Angel 2 first. Do you all want to see a Machete Kills Again… in Space movie!?
