D'Arcy Carden Has Joined the A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN Dramedy Series at Amazon
D’Arcy Carden, who is just finishing up her run on the hit series The Good Place, has signed on to the upcoming series adaptation of A League of Their Own. The series is being written by Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) and Will Graham (Movie 43) and is based on the same story as the 1992 film of the same name about a league of female baseball players during World War II.
This story will have the same backdrop, but looks to tell some new stories. Here’s the synopsis:
A League of Their Own is a half-hour comedy infusing the warmth, humor and DNA of the classic film, while taking a contemporary spin on the stories of the women surrounding the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. The show will begin with the formation of the league in 1943 and follows the Rockford Peaches, season to season as they struggle to keep the team alive through close games, injuries, late night bar crawls, sexual awakenings, not crying and road trips across a rapidly changing United States. The series dives deeper into the issues facing the country while following a ragtag team of women figuring themselves out while fighting to realize their dreams of playing professional baseball.
There is so much to work with within this world. The characters and the time and place they occupy are full of fascinating stories and a tumultuous time in our nation’s history. It’s not a bad idea to make a series of A League of Their Own, but it may be hard to recreate the magic from the film. It’s one of my favorites, and I know it’s pretty beloved by many people. Hopefully the series can get a bit of that chemistry, and be a great show that fans will love.
