DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Season 2 Jumps Forward in Time as Showrunner Teases a New Chapter for Jessica Jones
Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 left Matt Murdock bloodied, furious, and ready to reclaim New York from Mayor Wilson Fisk. By the finale, the Man Without Fear had drawn a line in the sand, rallying Karen Page and a few trusted allies for what looks like a full-on war for the city.
Now we’ve got fresh details on where things head next, and Season 2 isn’t picking up the next morning.
Showrunner Dario Scardapane revealed in the latest issue of SFX Magazine that the story jumps ahead six months. That gap may even leave room for major off-screen events, including The Void’s attack on New York, which went unmentioned in Season 1.
Scardapane explained, “The Fisk administration at this point has really taken hold. At the same time, there’s a bubbling up of an underground. New York is being transformed.”
Fisk isn’t just sitting in City Hall, he’s digging in. Meanwhile, something is stirring beneath the surface, and it sounds like Matt won’t be fighting alone for long.
We already know that Jessica Jones is stepping back into the spotlight. According to Scardapane, the time jump is part of a larger effort to respect the years that have passed since the Netflix era.
“One of the things we’ve leaned into is that time has passed between the end of the Netflix show and the beginning of ours,” Scardapane continued.
“We’re acknowledging that. These characters have matured; they’ve gone through life. And Jessica Jones, bourbon-swilling smartass – what’s it like for her to mature seven years?”
It has been seven years since we last saw the hard-drinking private investigator. A lot can change in that time. In the comics, Jessica and Luke Cage have a child together. If the MCU follows that path, it would completely shift her priorities and give her something deeply personal to fight for.
Scardapane made it clear that bringing her back was a priority from day one. He said, “What Melissa Rosenberg did with Season 1 of Jessica Jones is some of the finest superhero television work ever.
“When I first came talked to Marvel I was like, 'We’ve got to bring Jessica Jones back!' I don’t feel that her story ended. If you read the comic books, you’ll know that there’s a next chapter of her life that I thought was super interesting.”
That’s high praise for Melissa Rosenberg, and it signals that Season 2 isn’t just using Jessica as a cameo. There’s a real arc in play.
There’s also the lingering question of Mike Colter, who has repeatedly hinted that he’d be open to returning as Power Man. If he shows up too, the status quo between Jessica and Luke could look very different from the last time we saw them.
Meanwhile, the central conflict is only escalating. Mayor Wilson Fisk is tightening his grip on the city and actively hunting public enemy number one, the Hell’s Kitchen vigilante known as Daredevil.
Under the mask, Matt Murdock will have to wage his war from the shadows, trying to dismantle the Kingpin’s empire piece by piece while holding onto his own soul in the process.
Daredevil: Born Again returns to Disney+ on March 24.
