DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Season 3 Trailer Description Has Matt Murdock Going Full Daredevil in Prison
Marvel Television hit New York Comic-Con with a little gut punch today, confirming that Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 will be the final season of the series.
As you might imagine, the crowd wasn’t happy about it. The news was met with loud boos in the rooms. Fans have waited a long time to see this corner of Marvel come roaring back, and now we already know the end is coming.
The good news? Based on the first footage shown at NYCC, it looks like the Man Without Fear is going out swinging with a strong finale season.
I was at the panel, and the footage Marvel showed was really cool. It had the room pumped up, even while everyone was clearly pissed that this will be the last season.
The trailer hasn’t made its way online yet, but the footage gave us a strong first look at where Matt Murdock’s story is headed next, and things are looking rough for him.
The big hook is that Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock is behind bars, and prison life isn’t exactly making his life any easier.
Matt is serving time after making the choice to answer for what he calls his crimes, but of course, this is Matt Murdock we’re talking about. Prison isn’t going to keep Daredevil buried for long.
The teaser puts a lot of focus on Matt’s time in prison, where his new “costume” is an orange jumpsuit.
Matt says: “I made a choice to pay for my so-called crimes for stopping a madman from turning the city into his own personal kingdom,”
He seems willing to live with that sentence, at least at first. Then the footage kicks into gear and shows Matt tearing apart that orange jumpsuit before stepping out shirtless with a makeshift Daredevil head wrap and cuffs.
From there, he goes full Man Without Fear and starts beating the shit out of other inmates.
It was a badass little prison sequence, and seeing Matt improvise his Daredevil look behind bars gave the whole thing a raw, scrappy energy.
This isn’t the polished red suit version of Daredevil. This is Matt stripped down to survival mode, and that is always when the character hits hardest.
While Matt is locked up, the Defenders are back in play on the outside.
The trailer showed Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage, and Finn Jones’ Danny Rand getting official police badges.
Jessica, being Jessica, takes a swig from her flask and says: “Well, is no one gonna say it?There should be four badges.”
That moment landed with fans in the room. It was funny, sharp, and also a little painful because Matt is the missing piece.
Seeing Jessica, Luke, and Danny together again is going to be a big deal for Marvel fans, especially those who have been waiting years for the Netflix-era heroes to properly reconnect in the MCU.
The footage also gave us a quick flash of Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk screaming his lungs out somewhere, which is exactly the kind of unhinged Kingpin energy you want from him.
Then came another major reveal. Wilson Bethel’s Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter in a dark, comic book-accurate Bullseye costume and ready to kick ass.
That was one of the cooler reveals in the teaser. Dex has always been one of the more Interesting characters and most dangerous threats in Matt’s world, and seeing him suited up in a look that feels pulled right out of the comics is going to make fans very happy.
The cast for Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 includes Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Bethel as Bullseye, Nikki M. James as Kirsten McDuffie, Margarita Levieva as Heather Glenn, Clark Johnson as Cherry, and Matthew Lillard as Mr. Charles. Elodie Yung is also back as Elektra Natchios.
As for when fans will actually get to see this trailer online, it might not be anytime soon.
Marvel Television and Disney+ handled Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 in a similar way, holding back footage for a while before releasing it publicly.
So, unless this trailer leaks from the Javits Center, fans may have to wait until next year to see Matt rip his prison jumpsuit apart and start cracking skulls.
It’s still a bummer that Season 3 will close the book on Daredevil: Born Again, but based on this first look, Marvel isn’t easing its way to the finish line.
Matt is in prison, Fisk is still raging, Bullseye is suited up, and the Defenders are finally coming back together.
If this really is the end, at least it looks like Daredevil: Born Again is ready to go out with broken bones, bloody knuckles, and one hell of a fight.
