DAREDEVIL Star Charlie Cox Reacts to Controversial Nanotech Helmet Debate
The Marvel Cinematic Universe loves its Nanotech. Over the years, we've seen it seamlessly suit up Iron Man, Black Panther, Spider-Man, and more. Then almost every hero has a Nanotech helmet. But should should Daredevil also get the Nanotech upgrade?
Actor Charlie Cox, who’s gearing up to return as Daredevil in Daredevil: Born Again, was put on the spot about that very question.
During an interview with Screen Rant, Cox sat down with co-star Vincent D’Onofrio (Kingpin) when the topic of Nanotech helmets came up. The interviewer urged Cox to promise he’d never let Daredevil’s signature cowl get the Nanotech treatment, even if the Avengers offered it. Cox, slightly amused, responded with a simple:
“Okay, why?”
The interviewer argued that there’s an emotional weight when Daredevil physically removes his mask, something that would be lost if it just “glitched” away. D’Onofrio immediately backed up that sentiment:
“I think you’re right. That’s a good point.”
Cox, acknowledging the argument, pointed out that street-level heroes like Daredevil inherently understand the practicality of their gear. But before he could make any bold promises, D’Onofrio jumped in with a warning:
“Don’t make any promises you can’t keep.”
Cox took a beat and, with a smirk, offered a humorous counterpoint saying:
“I will say this though, what you don’t get to see is sometimes when that [helmet] comes off, it’s a bad hair day.”
I’m not a fan of the Nontech helments in the MCU in general. It’s annoying when they constantly flick on and off. Also, if ever hero is running around with a nanotech helmet, why don’t they all just have Nanotech suits?
It’s no secret that MCU fans have mixed feelings about Nanotech’s overuse. Sure, it adds convenience and sleek visuals, but its just kind of ridiculous.
With Daredevil: Born Again aiming for a grittier, street-level approach, it’ll be interesting to see if Marvel keeps things grounded or if even Hell’s Kitchen gets the Nanotech treatment.
What do you think? Should Daredevil stay old-school, or is there room for a high-tech upgrade?
Daredevil: Born Again premieres on Disney+ on March 4, 2025.
