Dark Horse Launches New MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Ongoing Series Ahead of Next Year’s Movie
2026 is shaping up to be a big year for Masters of the Universe fans. A new live action movie arrives in June, an animated series is on the way, and now Dark Horse Comics is leveling up its current comic run with a full monthly series that will keep Eternia thriving long before audiences hit the theater.
Dark Horse confirmed that its current miniseries, Masters of the Universe: The Sword of Flaws, will evolve into a new ongoing title called He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.
The shift begins with issue 5, which launches a fresh arc titled “The Battle of Snake Mountain”. That issue also marks the end of The Sword of Flaws storyline and the start of a bigger, long term direction for the franchise at Dark Horse.
This new comic run exists separately from next year’s live action film continuity. The character designs used for the covers are not tied to the upcoming movie, but depending on how long the series runs, there is always room for future cross influence.
Writer Tim Seeley is staying with the series and will be joined by a fresh art team that includes Reilly Brown, colorist Jim Charalampadis, and letterer AndWorld Design. Issue 5 features covers by Brown and Ciro Nieli, giving fans a look at what this next chapter will feel like visually.
Nicholas Galitzine stars as He Man in the movie, with Camila Mendes as Teela and Idris Elba as Man At Arms. Morena Baccarin plays The Sorceress and James Purefoy and Charlotte Riley portray King Randor and Queen Marlena.
Alison Brie joins the cast as Evil Lyn. The roster continues with Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Kojo Attah as Tri Klops, and Jon Xue Zhang as Ram Man.
This film has had a long road to the big screen. Netflix previously developed a version in 2022 that ultimately fell apart. Amazon and MGM Studios later stepped in to bring the project back to life.
Travis Knight is directing the film from a script written by Chris Butler. Before that, the Nee Brothers were attached to direct.
The story follows “10 year old Prince Adam who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword the only link to his home on Eternia. After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor. But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He Man the most powerful man in the Universe!”
With the film set to hit theaters on June 5, 2026 and Dark Horse pushing forward with a new long form comic series, Masters of the Universe fans have plenty to look forward to.
Eternia is gearing up for one of its most exciting years in decades, and this new ongoing comic feels like the perfect way to kick things off.
