Darren Aronofsky in Talks to Direct Stephen King's CUJO for Netflix
Last week it was announced that Stephen King’s Cujo will be getting a new film adaptation on Netflix, and now we have leanred that Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky is in talks to helm the project.
According to a report from The Insneider, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker is currently in negotiations to direct the adaptation of the 1981 horror novel. While no writer or actors are currently attached, Aronofsky’s involvement is enough to stir up excitement.
Aronofsky is known for pushing his audiences into deep psychological turmoil with films like Requiem for a Dream, mother!, and The Whale. If he takes the reins on Cujo, we can expect him to deliver and unsettling movie.
Given his signature blend of visceral horror and emotional devastation, his take on King’s classic could be an intense and suffocating experience.
Cujo tells the story of a once-friendly Saint Bernard who, after being bitten by a rabid bat, turns into a monstrous force of nature. His descent into madness wreaks havoc on a mother, Donna, and her young son, Tad, as they are trapped inside a sweltering car as the bloodthirsty dog terrorizes them.
Cujo will mark Netflix’s fifth King adaptation, joining Gerald’s Game, 1922, In the Tall Grass, and Mr. Harrigan’s Phone. The streamer also produced a TV series based on The Mist in 2017.
Aronofsky just wrapped Caught Stealing, a thriller starring Austin Butler as a washed-up baseball player pulled into New York City’s criminal underworld.
Whether Cujo will be his next project remains to be seen, but I hope that he lands the gig. I’d be really interested to see what he does with the story.
