Darrington Press Announces Three New Games And GenCon 2023 Plans
In the recent State of the Press, Darrington Press announced that they will be attending GenCon 2023 and three new games that are coming out. They also gave updates for previously announced projects, so let’s break it down.
First up, Queen by Midnight, from Critical Role’s own producer Kyle Shire, is a game in which you play as powerful princesses battling it out in a magical free for all to become the Queen at midnight. This will be a deckbuilding game that will feature a really cool clocktower. The tower will have rotating hands to keep track of rounds, is used as the location for the bazaar where you can buy cards for your deck, and will serve as a dice tower for all your rolling needs. The artwork looks really cool and each princess will have a unique play style. I’m not a huge deck building game fan, but this one looks really cool so I may have to check it out. It will be launching August 2023.
Illuminated Worlds, created by Stras Ascimovic and Layla Alderman, is a new RPG system based on a D6 dice pool. It is designed for shorter, arc driven campaigns and can be used for any setting you can think of. There will be more details revealed later, but it should be interesting to see exactly how it will work.
Not much was said about Daggerheart, another new RPG system. This one is designed for longer campaigns and character progression. What exactly that means in terms of gameplay I have no idea, but I am very intrigued.
The previously announced Guardians of Matrimonia, a game of fantastical wedding planning originally designed for Matthew Mercer and Marisha Ray’s wedding, is set to officially release in early 2024, with more details on the project available closer to launch. Additionally, The Chronicles of Exandria I: The Tale of Vox Machina, and The Chronicles of Exandria II: The Legend of Vox Machina art books are both receiving reprints under the Darrington Press banner.
Queen by Midnight, Illuminated World, and Daggerheart will all be available to play at GenCon 2023. Make sure to check out Darrington Press if you are going to be attending this year.
I’ve been a fan of the games made by Darrington Press so far, so definitely keep an eye out for these new ones as more details are released.
