Darth Vader and Kylo Ren Face Off in STAR WARS: LEGACY OF VADER Comic
Seven years after the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, one of the sequel trilogy’s most teased and emotionally loaded confrontations is finally happening. Kylo Ren is coming face to face with Darth Vader, and it’s going down in the pages of a new canon Star Wars comic.
Kylo Ren’s obsession with his grandfather has been baked into the sequel trilogy from the very beginning. From the charred mask to his constant struggle with legacy and identity, Ben Solo’s fixation on Vader shaped his fall and fueled his rage.
Fans have waited a long time to see what would happen if that obsession became something more tangible, and Marvel Comics delivers exactly that.
The moment arrives in the final issue of Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, the series from Charles Soule and Luke Ross. The story is set between Star Wars: The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, focusing on Kylo Ren during his time as Supreme Leader of the First Order. The series launched on February 5, 2025, and has steadily built toward this final confrontation.
The 12th issue will close out the story and the cover art and preview pages show a direct face-off between Kylo Ren and Darth Vader himself. Kylo finally will get what he’s always wanted, a chance to meet with Vader.
That said, the situation may not be as straightforward as it looks. By the time of the sequel trilogy, Anakin Skywalker has already been redeemed and exists as a Force Ghost. Vader, as Kylo worships him, should no longer be there.
That opens the door to a far darker possibility, especially considering Palpatine’s manipulation of Ben Solo. Palpatine famously claimed responsibility for the voices in Kylo’s head, which raises the question of whether this encounter is real, spiritual, or another calculated lie designed to tighten his grip.
The larger Star Wars saga has always revolved around cycles of downfall and redemption. The original trilogy turned Darth Vader into one of cinema’s most iconic villains before giving him a redemption arc.
The prequel trilogy traced Anakin Skywalker’s tragic fall to the Dark Side. The sequel trilogy pushed the idea that evil doesn’t simply disappear, it evolves. Kylo Ren, portrayed by Adam Driver, embodied that idea as a man crushed under the weight of a legacy he couldn’t escape.
All of that history collides in this final chapter. The description reads:
“KYLO REN REACHES THE DARKEST DEPTHS OF HIS JOURNEY! KYLO REN battles his way through the darkest corridors of VADER'S CASTLE! Visions of VADER bring Kylo to his knees! Will the young tyrant be able to move beyond the shadow of his grandfather? Or will he be imprisoned within the LEGACY OF VADER?”
Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #12 is one of the most emotionally charged Star Wars comic moments in years. For fans who’ve been waiting to see Kylo Ren finally confront the shadow that defined him, this is the showdown that’s been a long time coming.
