Dave Bautista Confirms He Talked With James Gunn About Joining THE SUICIDE SQUAD

We all knew a year ago that Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista was director James Gunn’s biggest supporter when Gunn was unexpectedly fired from the franchise by Disney. Bautista threatened to leave the franchise if Gunn weren’t reinstated and wagered his own career in support of the Guardians helmer. Gunn has since been rehired, and all is right with the Guardians of the Galaxy and the upcoming sequel that is due out in 2021.

In the time the film was on hiatus and no one knew what would be come of the director or its stars, Gunn was hired by Warner Bros. to direct The Suicide Squad, and there was a lot of talk at the time about Bautista following his friend over and being cast in that film. In a recent interview with THR, Bautista confirmed that rumor. He said they did have conversations about the film, but didn’t really elaborate.

So there we have it. Bautista was ready to jump ship, to which he did say his “agents at the time were a little concerned,” but it all panned out. Guardians is restored, and Bautista’s career is flourishing.

We’ll see him next in Escape Plan: The Extractors, out on DVD and VOD July 2nd, Stuber in theaters now, My Spy in theaters on August 23rd, Dune to be released November 20, 2020, and Guardians of the Galaxy 3 in 2021.
