Dave Bautista Opens Up About His Feelings on James Gunn and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3

A lot of Marvel fans rejoiced at the news of James Gunn being rehired by Disney to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. After he was initially fired, actor Dave Bautista was not happy and was very vocal and clear about how he felt. He called the firing “nauseating” and said that “[‘Guardians of the Galaxy’] without James Gunn just isn’t [‘Guardians of the Galaxy’].”

There was a point where he was even looking at being released from his contract so he didn’t have to appear in the movie. In a recent interview with Variety, Bautista opened up about his feelings on Gunn, Disney, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3:

“I am contractually obligated [to do the third movie], but I think that Marvel and Disney –– if I had really stood my ground and said, ‘I don’t want to do this without James’ –– I think that they are decent enough that they would’ve let me out of my contract.”

He went on to explain:

“I just spoke my mind and was honest about the way I felt about it. I thought he was given a raw deal. I thought it was a bad call, bad decision.”

Luckily for everyone, Disney and Gunn managed to work things out and bring him back on board. The actor then added:

“I wanted to bring it home. These guys are like family to me and I wanted to be involved in the third one. I wanted to use James’ script because it’s a beautiful script. Moving forward without James was a real personal issue with me.”

There’s no word on when exactly Guardians Vol. 3 will be released, but Gunn won’t start working on it until after he’s finished with DC’s The Suicide Squad, so it’s going to be awhile.

It’s going to be really interesting to see what Gunn has planned, especially after the events in Avengers: Endgame.
