Dave Bautista Took a Meeting for FAST & FURIOUS and Used It To Pitch GEARS OF WAR
Dave Bautista has been very vocal about wanting to play Marcus Fenix in a Gears of War movie. He wants to make this movie so badly and it’s crazy to me that there’s no kind of movement on getting him on board.
At one point Bautista took a meeting with Universal Pictures to talk about a possible role in the Fast & Furious franchise. Instead of talking about that though, Bautista says he told them he wasn’t interested and wanted to discuss Gears of War instead. In a recent interview with Collider, Bautista talked about that meeting saying:
“They wanted to talk to me about Fast and the Furious, and I said 'I’m not interested, let’s talk about Marcus Fenix.”
There’s been a Gears of War movie in development with y F. Scott Frazier (Collide and xXx: Return of Xander Cage) working on the script. It’s said that the story would be set on the planet Sera, and that it follows a former P.O.W. “who leads the human resistance against the Locust Horde, a race of creatures who emerge from beneath the Earth’s surface intent on eliminating mankind.”
According to Gears of War head Rod Fergusson, the movie will not be set in the same reality of the game. It will be its own thing and tell its own story, a story that will not be dependent on the games. He explains:
“In order for the movie to be successful, it has to be a great movie first and a Gears movie second. Basically the way that we sort of reconciled that was, we said, ‘oh the movie should be an alternate reality. It should not be dependent on the game story, nor should it influence the game story.’”
That being said, there will be certain staples of the franchise that will be included in the movie. If this project actually does move forward, it would be absolutely nuts for Dave Bautista not to be cast in the film. He has to be cast! He’s perfect for the role!
