Dave Bautista Wants to Be a Part of James Gunn's DC Cinematic Universe but It Won't Be as Bane
Dave Bautista has enjoyed working with director James Gunn on the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise over the years, and he wouldn’t mind reuniting with him in one of the upcoming DC projects that Gunn will be developing as head of DC Studios.
During a recent interview with CB, Bautista shared he “didn't want to be ‘that guy’ that would congratulate someone on their new position while also trying to slyly proposition for a role.” But he did say that while he doesn't expect to get a call from Gunn or be handed a role, he would "love to be a part of the DC Universe."
Now, a lot of fans have been wanting to see Bautista take on the role of Bane, but it doesn’t sound like that’s going to happen. Bautista has actually talked with Gunn about the possibility of playing Bane in the new DC universe, but that’s not the direction they are going, Gunn is looking for younger actors. Bautista told Variety:
“I’m not kidding. They were a little like, ‘Woah, we’re not even casting Bane.’ I was like ‘I don’t care, I’m playing him.’ I have had conversations with James about that, but I think the direction he’s leaning in, completely rebooting that whole universe, he’s starting from scratch and starting younger and fresher and I think you need to do that. I think for the DC Universe to be revived, you need to start from scratch, and I think you need to start with younger actors. You need to start to plan for the next 15 years, and I just don’t think you can do that with me. And I understand that.
Bautista added that at this point in his career, he can’t bring justice to Bane:
“I have to say that I appreciate that because I don’t want to play a character that I can’t bring justice to it. I don’t think at this point in my career that I can bring justice to Bane anymore. I just don’t know if I could handle the physical part, and I don’t think I would have the longevity to plan ahead for films. So, I just don’t know if I’d be that guy.”
I’m sure that one day we’ll see Bautista in a future DC film, and when that happens, it will be interesting to see what character he ends up playing. Who would you like to see him play in the new DC cinematic universe?
