Dave Bautista on His KNOCK AT THE CABIN Role, Working with Denis Villeneuve, and How He Doesn't Care About Fame
Dave Bautista is looking ahead at his career as a serious actor and is relieved to finally leave his Guardians of the Galaxy character Drax behind. He’s looking to be more of a serious actor and doesn’t want to have that character be his legacy.
The actor has a couple of new films coming up that are going to push his acting talents. One of those projects is M. Night Shyamalan’s new horror thriller Knock at the Cabin, and while talking to GQ, he explained that his performance involves the most dialogue he’s ever had in a movie. He talked about that, saying:
“It’s by far the most I’ve ever spoken in a film. Just huge pages of monologues. We were shooting on film, which is very expensive. And we were shooting with one camera, so you don’t have the luxury of edits. It’s your only opportunity — you need a perfect take. It’s a lot of pressure. I want to remember my dialogue, but not at the expense of losing the emotion of the scene.”
The other project he’s got coming up is Dune: Part Two, and when talking about working with director Denis Villeneuve on the Dune franchise and Blade Runner 2049, he said:
“If I could be a number one [on the callsheet] with Denis, I would do it for f**king free. I think that’s how I could find out how good I could be. He brings out the best in me. He sees me in a different light, sees the performer that I want to be. That might be how I solve the puzzle.”
Bautista is all about perfecting his talents right now and I love that. But, one thing he has no interest in is being a movie star and he explains that he doesn’t care about fame.
“Honestly, I could give a f**k [about being a movie star]. I don’t live a great big glamorous life. I live here in Tampa. I don’t care about the spotlight, I don’t care about fame. I just want to be a better actor. I want respect from my peers. I don’t need accolades — I really don’t, man. It’s about the experience, about knowing that I accomplished something.”
The dude just loves to act and that’s awesome! I’d say Bautista is one of the best actors to come out of the wrestling world. He’s already proven that he has more of an acting range than Dwayne Johnson. I can’t wait to see what other roles he ends up taking on in the future.
