Dave Chappelle Makes Peace with Comedy Central and CHAPPLELLE'S SHOW Returns to Netflix
A few months ago Netflix removed Chappelle’s Show at the request of Dave Chappelle because of some behind-the-scenes issues he had with Comedy Central. He never got paid after leaving the ViacomCBS-owned show. He previously explained that he found out that “these people were streaming my work and they never had to ask me or they never have to tell me.” They also never paid him for it.
So, the comedian asked Netflix to remove Chappelle’s Show from its lineup due to his contract dispute with Comedy Central owner ViacomCBS over the licensing and royalty issues.
Well, in a recent Instagram post, Chappelle shares the issues have been resolved and that Chappelle’s Show is returning to Netflix. He said:
“I never asked Comedy Central for anything. If you remember, I said, ‘I’m going to my real boss,’ and I came to you because I know where my power lies. I asked you to stop watching the show, and thank God almighty for you, you did.
“You made that show worthless because without your eyes, it’s nothing. And you stopped watching it. They called me and I got my name back and I got my license back and I got my show back, and they paid me millions of dollars.”
Chappelle went on to say, “After all these years, I can finally say that, ‘Comedy Central, it’s been a pleasure doing business with you.’”
The comedian also took the time during his set to thank Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos for having “the courage” to remove the show from Netflix despite the “financial detriment to his company.” He then went on to thank CBS Viacom executive Chris McCarthy for “making the past right.”
