Dave Filoni Addresses The Orange Lightsabers Being Wielded By The Villains in STAR WARS: AHSOKA

There’s an interesting thing in the latest Star Wars: Ahsoka trailer that not a lot of fans seem to be talking about. That thing is that two of the main villains of the story are wielding orange lightsabers, not red, which is what Sith warriors wield.

These lightsabers are wielded by Ray Stevenson‘s character, Baylan Skoll, who is a former Jedi warrior. He survived Order 66 by escaping into the Unknown Regions, and it’s believed that he’s an ally of Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen). The other character is Ivanna Sakhno’s character Shin Hati, who is believed to be Baylan’s apprentice. They both wield the Dark Side of the Force and Shin is said to have a loose allegiance with the Night Sisters, who are the Witches of Dathomir that were explored in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. She is unleashed to take down Ahsoka.

I have seen rumors and speculation that suggest Stevenson’s character is Joruus C'Baoth, from Timothy Zahn's “Heir to the Empire”. C'Baoth is a clone that was created by Palpatine and became the Guardian of the Imperial storehouse at Mount Tantiss on Wayland. Grand Admiral Thrawn discovered the existence of the storehouse and traveled there to recruit the Dark Jedi to help destroy the New Republic.

I don’t think that Baylan is C'Baoth in secret, but the character may have been inspired by him in some ways. One thing is for sure, these characters are incredibly skilled with the lightsabers they wield and seem to have pinpoint accurate precision, which is fascinating to me. Their fighting skills are definitely different and more defined, and I’m not sure what that means either!

Regardless, Dave Filoni recently addressed the orange lightsabers that these villains wield, and when it was pointed out to him during an interview with Screen Rant, Filoni explained that the orange lightsabers were intentional and adds that nothing is accidental.

"I made [their lightsaber blades] a little bit more orange. That's a really good eye. You're the first person to catch that. That was very intentional. I didn't make them just a stark red. I remember as a kid that Vader's lightsaber kind of fluctuated from visual effects to being a little bit more orange. I didn't want to go straight up orange, but it's identifying a little bit of something to kids that they might not straight up be what you think they are in the beginning. It's good you caught that. Nothing is accidental."

He obviously isn’t going to offer up any details as to what the orange lightsaber means, or why their fighting style is more mechanically precise, but there is a reason behind all of this that will be revealed at some point! I have no doubt that there’s something to be revealed about these characters, we’ll just have to wait and see what it is! In the meantime, all we can do is speculate.

What are you thinking all of this might mean!?
