Dave Filoni and George Lucas Talk About Live-Action Influence on THE CLONE WARS, Favorite Episodes, and More
Star Wars: The Clone Wars is almost over. We only have a few episodes left! Well, in a recent episode of The Star Wars Show, they shared part of an interview with Dave Filoni and George Lucas where they talked about the show and what went into making it. Of particular note, Lucas talks about how he wanted it to feel like a part of the movies as he says:
We weren’t making this for television. We were making it for the big screen. I said, think of this as a feature. Everything about it. The style. Attention to detail. The lightning. Everything is done at a feature level even though it’s going on television.
Another aspect that both gentlemen talked about was the idea that you shouldn’t direct if you can’t write. That makes me wonder about a lot of directors. However, one of the biggest things they talked about was the use of live-action footage and the influence of films. Talking about the second season episode “Landing at Point Rain,” Filoni said:
George, Jason Tucker, and I sat in Avid for two days re-cutting that episode with live-action footage. George had Battle of the Bulge, The Four Feathers, Battle over Britain. We took a bunch of stock footage and footage from movies that he had and literally cut that episode together out of live-action footage. That’s why the pace of it feels so fast. Up until that point, we hadn’t really done anything like that in animation.
