Dave Filoni Says George Lucas Has Been "Very Complimentary" of THE MANDALORIAN

We know that George Lucas and Dave Filoni have had a very tight working relationship due to the work they did together on Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Even though Lucas is retired, that relationship has carried over to the other Star Wars projects that have been developed like The Mandalorian, which Filoni had a big hand in helping build with Jon Favreau.

During a recent interview THR, Filoni was asked about Lucas’s reaction to The Mandalorian, and while you might be hoping for the same impassioned reaction that most fans had, that’s not what you’re going to get. When it comes to the Star Wars franchise Filoni gets more of a mentor/student vibe from Lucas. When asked about the kind of feedback that Lucas gave in regards to The Mandalorian, he said:

"Not a tremendous amount. We talk about other stuff. When I talk with him, I like to get more knowledge. He'll give me some reminders, especially before I shoot something, about how many setups I should try to get in a day, and I might rack his brain for certain things about how to cover a scene. He's been very complimentary. I think he's enjoyed the show, and he said once [that] now he gets to watch it as a fan and watch it as a viewer. My job is to bring that knowledge forward and pass on what I've learned from him in every discipline to Jon and to the creative departments."

That makes sense. George Lucas doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who would fanboy over his own creation. He’s more likely to get excited about the kind of technology that’s being used to bring these new Star Wars stories to life.
