Dave Filoni Shares George Lucas' Main Concern with Grogu in THE MANDALORIAN
Grogu has been a huge hit with Star Wars fans since his introduction in The Mandalorian. It was such a wonderful surprise and I’m still surprised that Lucasfilm and Disney were able to keep it a secret prior to the reveal.
Early on in production, George Lucas even visited the set and took a photo with the little guy. You can check out that delightful photo here. Well, it turns out that Lucas actually had a big concern regarding Grogu and a recently published Star Wars book “The Art of The Mandalorian: Season 2” via Esquire, writer, director, and producer Dave Filoni shared that concern Lucas had:
“I had a talk with George, at one point, about the Child. His main concern was that the kid has to have a proper amount of training.”
The training that he’s talking about here is Jedi training. Obviously, Filoni filled Lucas in on the long-term plans for the character and what he’s going to be doing as his story arc continues to play out.
Grogu did receive some training before The Mando found him, but he doesn’t really remember much from his past. Then in The Book of Boba Fett, Grogu received a bit more training from Luke Skywalker, but not that much. It was enough for him to help out a bit in that final battle at the end of the series, though, destroying a Scorpenek annihilator droid and putting the Rancor to sleep.
Grogu’s Jedi skills are still probably super limited, but he seems to know enough to get by and help when he’s needed. I don’t know, Lucas’ concern might still be valid as Grogu still really hasn’t received a proper amount of training as a Jedi, but it looks like most of his training from here on out will come from The Mando, which is pretty cool. Grogu as a badass Mandalorian is going to be wicked rad.
