Dave Filoni Talks About Working on THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU and How Far the Puppetry Has Come
We are a year and a half away from seeing The Mandalorian & Grogu grace our screens, but it sounds like it’s coming along really well. Based on the series The Mandalorian, the film will follow the title character, also known as Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal, who will be joined by the cutest of Star Wars creatures, Grogu.
While the story details have been kept mostly under wraps, we have a cool update from Star Wars producer Dave Filoni, who got to work very hands on with the creature formerly known as “baby Yoda.”
While on the red carpet for the latest Star Wars series, Skeleton Crew, ExtraTV asked Filoni what he could say about the film The Mandalorian & Grogu.
Of course, Filoni didn’t give anything away regarding plot details, but he did note that he’s “very” excited about the film and he went on to discuss how Grogu has evolved over the years.
Filoni also confirmed that production on the movie, which began in the summer of 2024, has now officially wrapped.
“Jon and I had a great time working on that, as we always do,” he said. “It was great seeing Grogu. He’s become such a star.
“It’s amazing how it’s evolved. What we can do now with the puppetry compared to Season 1 and where we are today in a film. Working with a team, which I worked quite a bit with them on the puppetry legacy effects. They did a fantastic job, and what a wonderful little creation Grogu is.”
It’s cool to hear that the practical effects Star Wars is famous for are constantly evolving and improving. It must be so cool to be on any one of their sets.
The Mandalorian & Grogu will be released in theaters on May 22, 2026, and you can catch up on the first three seasons of the show, available now on Disney+.
