David Arquette Acquires Rights to Bozo the Clown
David Arquette has bought the rights to Bozo the Clown, the first time the rights to the iconic clown have changed ownership in 65 years. He hopes to use the character to bring joy to children again and to create a sort of family of Bozos, or as he puts it a kind of Spiderverse of Bozos to reflect the diversity and different needs of audiences. It’s unclear what exactly he has in store for us, but his enthusiasm is hard to contain as you can see in this interview. I think he has his work cut out for him to bring clowns out of our nightmares and into a more positive light. According to a poll conducted in 2016, 42% of Americans reported they were at least somewhat afraid of clowns, though the number may be inflated due to the killer clown scare of 2016, I would argue that there are still a lot of people afraid of clowns. What do you think? Are we ready for the return of clowns? Or do you think we need to transform this iconic performer to fit a more modern sensibility? Given his obvious love for the character, I wish Arquette the best as he navigates this new venture.
