David Ayer Describes SUICIDE SQUAD Alternate Ending Featuring the Character Diablo
Writer and director David Ayer’s 2016 film Suicide Squad was not a fan favorite. The characters and some of the actors ended up crossing over into a 2021 reboot from James Gunn, but in the years since the first one was released, fans have speculated about whether Ayer’s vision was truly realized, and some have hoped to see his film truly realized without studio interference, similarly to Zack Snyder and his Justice League cut.
Recently, Ayer responded to a Twitter user that said 2016’s Suicide Squad should have had the teammates help El Diablo build an ofrenda for his family, and Ayer responded, revealing that he’d had a similar idea.
The director stated that the movie was meant to end with Diablo “making an ofrenda,” which is an altar honoring the dead, “and lighting it with his powers.” However, this was cut out by the studio being in favor of killing the character off. Ayer then said that Diablo’s dialogue is based on the people he grew up with in South Central Los Angeles.
