David Cronenberg and Viggo Mortensen Looking to Team Up Again for Strange Noir Body-Horror Film

David Cronenberg and Viggo Mortensen have made a few great films together over the course of their careers. The three projects they’ve made are A History of ViolenceEastern Promises, and A Dangerous Method

Now they are collaborating on a fourth film that Mortensen describes as a “strange film noir story” that will feature body-horror elements. During a recent interview with GQ, the actor was asked about working with Cronenberg again and the “body-horror” type stuff that Cronenberg is known for, and this was his reply:

“Yes, we do have something in mind. It's something he wrote a long time ago, and he never got it made. Now he's refined it, and he wants to shoot it. Hopefully, it'll be this summer we'll be filming. I would say, without giving the story away, he's going maybe a little bit back to his origins.

“Yeah, it's very interesting. It's almost like a strange film noir story. It's disturbing and it's good, I think. But since his origins, he's obviously developed in terms of technique and self-assurance as a director.”

I love hearing that Cronenberg is diving back into the kinds of horror films from his early years of filmmaking! I loved those older films of his, so seeing him play in that kind of genre again is pretty cool!

Last year Cronenberg said that he was looking to finance three projects he’s written, which consist of two features and one series. I imagine that this “strange film noir story” is one of the projects he was talking about.
