David Cronenberg is Developing a New TV Series and He Discusses The Impact TV is Having on Film

TV David Cronenberg by Joey Paur

Director David Cronenberg recently revealed that he is in the early stages of developing a new TV series. This will be the first time he's ever developed something for TV. He has directed single episodes of shows before like Friday The 13th: The Series, but hasn't really done much work in the TV space.

The director is best known for his films such as The Fly, Videodrome, Scanners, Naked Lunch, and Crash made the announcement while being honored with a lifetime achievement award by the Venice Film Festival, but he didn't offer any specifics. He said he “can’t talk about it yet.”

Cronenberg went on to explain that movie-making is not dying the way people think it is, he says that it's "just evolving." He also talks about the impact that TV is having on films, saying:

"Today TV screens are getting bigger and bigger and therefore the difference between theatre and domestic viewing has become really flimsy. The rule used to be that closeup shots were only done for TV, and not for movies. But today that’s no longer the case."

That's an interesting little detail that he pointed out there. But he's right. We're seeing more and more of that.

I've always enjoyed the wild craziness of Cronenberg's films and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes of this TV series that he's developing.
