David Dastmalchian Has Not Been Asked to Return to ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA
Next year, we will see the release of the third Ant-Man movie, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The film will bring back franchise stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man, and Evangeline Lily as Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp. They’ll be joined by Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer, returning to play Dr. Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne/Wasp. Kathryn Newton (Lady Bird, Big Little Lies) is joining the cast as an older Cassie Lang, daughter of Scott, and Jonathan Majors is playing the villain Kang the Conqueror. Bill Murray has also joined the cast as an undisclosed bad guy.
But for now, we are unsure about some of the franchise’s side characters we have come to know and love. One in particular, Kurt, played by David Dastmalchian, gave an update on his character’s return to Screen Rant at the Moon Knight red carpet premiere, saying:
“It doesn't look like it... But that's okay. I know they're making something incredible. I can't wait to see what Peyton does next. He's one of my favorite directors... He's been so busy. I have tried to stay in touch, but he's making an incredible film right now.”
It’s also not confirmed whether we will see Michael Peña's Luis, or the other member of their trio, Dave, played by T.I., but if any of them return, it would most likely be Peña, as he had a bigger role in the second film than his two friends.
It’s a bummer that these guys haven’t been asked to return, but maybe we will get a surprise, and they will be added in some small way before it’s all over. If not, I still have faith we are going to get a great sequel. And it’s not like Dastmalchian is hurting for work. He did a fantastic job in The Suicide Squad and Dune last year, and we are going to see him soon in next year’s Last Voyage of the Demeter, based on the chapter “Captain’s Log,” from Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula. He will also appear in the star-studded Christopher Nolan drama Oppenheimer, as well as the Boston Strangler film that is in the works.
