David Fincher Confirmed to Be Developing SQUID GAME Series at Netflix and Is Likely His Next Project
There have been reports over the past year that David Fincher is looking to develop an American version of Squid Game for Netflix. Deadline is confirming those reports and says that this is likely Fincher’s next project.
Fincher has been developing the project over "the last two years or so.” If that is true he could jump into production on in sooner rather than later and it could start shooting in 2025.
There are no other details revealed, but it will be interesting to see what Fincher does for this franchise. He has such a unique storytelling and filmmaking style and there’s no doubt that he’ll deliver well-made high-quality series.
The subject matter of the series is filled with dark and gritty themes and tones, which is perfect for Fincher and his style. It’s also similar to Fincher’s 1997 thriller The Game, which revolves around real-life people becoming unwitting participants in a diabolical game.
Netflix has a long relationship with Netflix developing projects for them like House of Cards, Mindhunter, and the animated series Love, Death and Robots. He also directed Mank and The Killer for the streaming service.
Squid Game Season 2 is set to be released on December 26th. It was also renewed for a third and final season.
