David Fincher Is "Very Creatively Interested in Directing" WORLD WAR Z 2, But the Studio Is Dragging Their Feet
Last year we learned that director David Fincher was in talks to direct Brad Pitt's World War Z 2. The film was supposed to be released this year, but Paramount Pictures yanked it from their schedule and is now looking to maybe release it in 2018 or 2019.
Regardless of the schedule shuffle, inside sources are saying Fincher really wants to do the project. One source says he's "very creatively interested in directing the movie." Another says, "He really would like to do it," but that "It's up to Paramount."
I think it's awesome that Fincher could end up directing World War Z 2! He's one of my favorite directors, and I would love to see what a Fincher zombie movie would look like. The first film was a surprising hit and I believe audiences would love to see a sequel, but for some reason, the studio is dragging their feet. Rule of thumb, you don't drag your feet on a film when a director like David Fincher wants to make the movie!
According to THR, "Fincher was looking to make the film about a man and his family navigating a zombie apocalypse," and he would have done this on a budget that is less than the original's $190 million. Seems like the kind of production with a lot of positive things going for it, so hopefully the studio can get it figured out quickly and move forward before Fincher decides he doesn't want to do it anymore.
