David Fincher to Direct Sequel To ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD for Netflix, Scripted by Quentin Tarantino

In a move no one saw coming, David Fincher is set to direct a sequel to Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Brad Pitt is back as Cliff Booth, and the script is being written by Tarantino! This is for real! It’s not a joke!

This is wild! Fincher stepping behind the camera to direct a Tarantino script is exciting and it’s happening fast. The project is being fast-tracked by Netflix, and it will begin shooting this summer in California.

The film has a reported budget of $200 million. Fincher has cleared his schedule, setting aside other active projects, including his Squid Game spin-off with Dennis Kelly, the Western Bitterroot, and a collaboration with Gone Girl scribe Gillian Flynn, to make this movie.

As for Pitt, he reportedly gets first dibs on every Fincher project and he obviously wanted in on this one and wanted to reprise his role of Cliff Booth.

While many assumed The Movie Critic would be Tarantino’s final film, sources say that project morphed into this new Cliff Booth adventure. Apparently, Tarantino kept writing long after the original script wrapped. Not wanting it to gather dust, he reached out to Fincher and Netflix made it happen.

As of now, no additional cast has been confirmed. Leonardo DiCaprio’s return as Rick Dalton seems unlikely, maybe a cameo if anything. But, The Insneider says he’s in it, so we’ll see. Margot Robbie’s team has also reportedly made it known that she’s available if needed.

There’s no official title yet, but sources say Netflix paid over $20 million for the screenplay alone.

And as for Tarantino’s elusive tenth and final film? That’s still a mystery. But it’s easy to imagine he didn’t want to end his directing career on a sequel, even one featuring a fan-favorite like Cliff Booth.

So, a Tarantino-scripted movie about Cliff Booth, directed by David Fincher, starring Brad Pitt, and dropping on Netflix with a blockbuster budget? Sounds good to me!
