David Harbour Discusses What He Wants To Bring To HELLBOY and His Dinner with Ron Perlman
Whether you like it or not, Stranger Things actor David Harbour is taking on the role of Hellboy in an R-rated reboot currently being developed by director Neil Marshall. As much as I loved Ron Perlman in the role, I think Harbour is a decent choice to take on the role. I think he'll do the character justice.
During a recent interview with Yahoo, Harbour talks about landing the role and describes what his take on the character will be. Of course, he credits Stranger Things for landing the role in the first place:
"I would not be doing Hellboy if it wasn’t for Stranger Things, no. I would not. A lot of people responded to it. It’s got a lot of elements — Hopper is a very complicated character and has a lot of levels. And he is heroic, but he’s messed up, and I think they want this for this Hellboy as well."
He goes on to share his thoughts on Hellboy and describes what it is that he's looking to bring to the character when he plays him, saying:
“[Hellboy] is very rich. I think the films did a certain thing, the comics do a certain thing. Hellboy is kind of a neurotic, messed-up individual who’s destined for a horrible fate. He’s destined to become the beast of the apocalypse. Whenever he shows up and does the right thing, people throw beers at him and show up with pitchforks and he still manages to do the right thing. I think it’s funny and it’s sweet and it’s weird, and hopefully I can bring that to it as well.”
I'm sure Harbour will bring some fun elements to the character that will make it work. Patton Oswalt recently posted a photo of Harbour and Perlman having dinner together, which you can see below. In regards to that photo, Harbour Joked:
“Patton brokered a peace; it was incredible. I had reached out to Ron because I’m a big fan of his. He’s a really sweet guy and we wanted to just talk shop, and I just thought Patton Oswalt would be the perfect chaperone in case Ron and I started to make out or we started dancing too close or if we started getting in a fistfight.”
Check out the photo below and let us know how you're feeling about this Hellboy reboot now that the news has settled in a bit more.
