David Harbour is Looking to Bring Some Shakespearean Elements To HELLBOY

When we got our first look at David Harbour as Hellboy, a lot of fans exploded with excitement. He looked awesome in the role and the Hellboy character design was perfect! So, we know the character is going to look good, but what is Harbour planning on bringing to the character and his performance that will give fans a unique take on the character?

During a recent interview with The Independent, Harbour reveals that he will be bringing some Shakespearean elements to the character as he struggles with his inner demons. He says:

"On a surface level, he’s an adopted kid from hell. He was meant to bring about the apocalypse. Yet, he just wants to be a good guy and fight evil. But he has this destiny. That struggle is very Hamlet-esque, even having tones of Coriolanus, where you have this guy who cannot understand his own true nature. Those levels of complexity, if we can bring that to this movie, which we’re trying to do, I think will be really rich."

There is something very Shakespearean about Hellboy. It's one of the things that I loved about the comic book. We've heard time and time again that this Hellboy movie would be a more faithful adaptation of the comics and I'm looking forward to seeing how Harbour ends up displaying this inner turmoil along with his fun and loveable personality.

The film is being directed by Neil Marshall and it also stars Ian McShane as Professor Broom, Milla Jovovich as the Blood Queen, Sasha Lane as Alice Monaghan, Penelope Mitchell as Ganeida, a witch who has decided that the Blood Queen's wrath has gone on for too long, and Daniel Dae Kim will play Major Ben Daimio.

The film is about Hellboy going to England, where he must defeat Nimue, Merlin’s consort and the Blood Queen. But their battle will bring about the end of the world, a fate he desperately tries to turn away.

The movie will be released in late 2018.
