David Harbour Says THUNDERBOLTS Is Going to "Drop a Bomb" on the MCU
Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts movie is coming and they have been building up to it over the years with the introduction of certain characters in the MCU. The film is coming in Phase 5, and it will feature a team that consists of Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, Julie Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and of course, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, and David Harbour as Red Guardian. Oh! And how can I forget Harrison Ford taking on the role of General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross!
We really don’t know much about the film and what the story will deliver, but during an interview with Gizmodo, Harbour talked a little bit about it and teased that Thunderbolts are going to drop a bomb on the MCU. He told them:
"It'll be funny. It'll be weird, it'll be action. And then we're also going to drop a bomb, which is cool."
Of course, he didn’t elaborate on what that bomb is. Harbour is a hype man, though. He gets very excited about his projects and hypes the hell out of them. That’s his job, but if you’ve seen him in his interviews and panel appearances for his projects, he tends to get overly energetic and that’s why the fans love him! It’s fun to see him hyped, and when he says that Thunderbolts is going to drop a bomb on the MCU, fans are going to eat it up and speculate what that will be.
When previously talking about Harbour his character Red Guardian, the actor shared: "I really like him, and I love Florence [Pugh] as Yelena [also in Thunderbolts]. And then you throw in Wyatt [Russell, as U.S. Agent] from Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Sebastian [Stan, reprising Bucky Barnes]. You have all these great, colorful characters. I’m really excited for that movie."
When asked if he hopes to play Red Guardian over and over in future MCU movies, he responded: "I do. I love Red Guardian. I can’t wait to pull back the layers. The great thing about him is that he’s not very well-defined in the comics, like some of the other Marvel superheroes. So we can play with him in a different way, and be surprising and unexpected."
The film is being directed by Jake Schreier (Paper Towns, Kidding), from a script by Eric Pearson (Thor: Ragnarok, Black Widow) and Kurt Busiek. Thunderbolts is set to premiere on July 26th, 2023.
