David Harbour Teases STRANGER THINGS Series Finale "Is the Best Episode" and Had Cast "Uncontrollably Crying"
David Harbour is teasing the series finale episode of Stranger Things ahead of its fifth and final season, and he’s calling it the “best” one “they’ve ever done.”
The Netflix sci-fi series is coming to an end, and Harbour, who has played Jim Hopper throughout its run, approves of how the series will wrap up.
“I can be very critical of this show,” Harbour said during a live taping of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, noting that in Stranger Things Season 5, Episode 8, “They land the plane, and it is the best episode they’ve ever done.”
He continued:
“The end of this episode when we were reading it — just us reading it — about halfway through, people started crying. Then about the last 20 minutes, it was just uncontrollably crying, waves of different people. Noah Schnapp being my favorite.”
Harbour said that the emotion that overwhelmed the cast was “the fact that these kids, it was their childhood. They started the show when they were 11 and 12, and here we are reading [the finale].
It’s 10 years later, and we examine that idea, and it’s so well done and so beautiful.”
“It’s such a great episode, and it’s such a great season. You guys will love it,” Harbour added.
The Stranger Things cast includes Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Winona Ryder, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Sadie Sink, and Maya Hawke.
Harbour had been asked about the Stranger Things finale in 2023 and teased the final season.
“They’re terrific, as per usual,” Harbour said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast about the scripts. “They continue to outdo themselves, these currently-on-strike writers called the Duffer Brothers.”
He later said, “It’s a hell of an undertaking, too. I mean, the set pieces and the things in the scripts that we saw are bigger than anything we’ve done in the past.”
Season 5 of Stranger Things is set to hit Netflix early in 2025.
