David Tennant’s Agent Told Him Not to Touch DOCTOR WHO - “She Didn’t Call That Correctly”
David Tennant almost didn’t become the Doctor. Let that sink in for a second.
In a recent episode of David Tennant Does a Podcast With…, the beloved Time Lord found himself in the hot seat, this time interviewed by his wife and former Doctor Who co-star, Georgia Tennant.
During the conversation, he revealed that when the opportunity first came up to play the Tenth Doctor, not everyone in his corner thought it was a good idea.
“I had an agent at the time who was like, ‘Don’t touch it. It’s not going to work,’” Tennant recalled. “Not my current agent. A previous brilliant agent who's since retired, but she didn’t call that correctly.”
Looking back, it’s hard to imagine Doctor Who without Tennant’s emotionally charged, charming, and wildly quotable Doctor. He first piloted the TARDIS from 2005 to 2010, then returned as part of the 60th anniversary specials in 2023.
“Maybe I was clearly going to do it,” Tennant admitted. “But there was definitely a moment where I wasn’t.”
Thankfully, he did, and he was awesome in the role. He’s one of the main reasons why the show ended up being as great as it was.
Now, the show is once again evolving. Season 2 of Doctor Who features Ncuti Gatwa as the latest incarnation of the Doctor, and it is kicking off with “The Robot Revolution,” which early reviews have already praised.
Joining him is new companion Belinda Chandra, played by Varada Sethu, whose debut has been described as “impressive.”
Doctor Who Season 2 premieres April 12 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK, and on Disney+ worldwide.
I guess the moral of the story would be don’t always listen to your agent. Thankfully, Tennant didn’t.
