David Yates Is Directing All Five FANTASTIC BEASTS Movies
Talk about awesome job stability. Director David Yates has revealed that he’s attached to direct all five films in the Fantastic Beasts series. The director obviously loves this magical world and wants to keep playing in it.
Yates directed four installments of the Harry Potter franchise before he took on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. He told THR that he’s already committed to the entire Harry Potter prequel series, and he’s excited to take them on. He told them:
“I love making films, and I’ve got a great team, all of whom are like family. I only look at it movie to movie.”
He went on to reveal that Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is set to write the scripts for all four of the film in the franchise, and Yates said she's currently “putting the finishing touches” on the sequel. He talked about the sequel and said that it “feels so different from this [first film]. Much more haunting, like a dream. What she’s doing is really interesting; she’s not repeating herself.”
That’s pretty cool and encouraging to hear! Rowling went on to say that she is excited to take on the challenge:
“I’m never complacent — I’m always feeling like I gotta do my best work, and I’m always pretty hard on myself. We’ve set ourselves an ambitious story to tell in five movies, but it’s going to be challenging and exciting — all the things I like.”
It’s all the things that the fans like as well! The sequel will introduce us to a young version of Albus Dumbledore, and Johnny Depp will be taking on the role of the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald. He's the wizard that Dumbledore beat in a duel to win the Elder Wand. It’s going to be really cool to see how this story plays out.
The sequel is scheduled to hit theaters on November 16, 2018.
