DC Comics Announces BATMAN AND ROBIN: YEAR ONE Miniseries and Here's a Preview

DC Comics has announced a new comic book miniseries titled Batman & Robin: Year One, and we have a preview of it to share with you.

This 12-issue series will focus on the relationship between Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson outside of crime-fighting. It’s scripted by Mark Waid, a writer and editor at DC Comics who is known for his long run on The Flash and his work on Kingdom Come. The artwork will be created by Daredevil artist Chris Samnee.

The story of Batman and Robin: Year One finds Bruce Wayne adjusting to the realities of adopting Dick Grayson. At the same time, a mysterious new crime boss called The General is disrupting Gotham City’s underworld by challenging the other mobs.

Bruce and Dick will have to find answers as they navigate both sides of their relationship, as both father and son and as vigilantes.

Waid said in a statement: “At its heart, this isn’t a Batman & Robin story,” explains Mark Waid. “It’s a Bruce/Dick story. It takes place only a month or two after Bruce adopted Dick. And it’s sinking in for Bruce that he has no idea how to be a father to a kid that age.

“He has no role model. His own father was long dead by the time he was Dick’s age. Nothing he’s ever done has prepared him for this. And Alfred, wise as he is, doesn’t have much experience here either.”

Samnee spoke went on to talk about why Bruce and Dick complement each other. “Dick is everything Bruce is not—impetuous, flamboyant, reckless. But he’s also precise. He can stick a landing. He’ll take orders when they make sense to him.

“But he’s keen to improvise, testing his role within the Dynamic Duo.” Samnee added that the preview pages “showcase how they’ll be acting, and reacting, as they adventure out into Gotham City on patrol together.”

Batman and Robin: Year One #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on October 16, 2024.
