DC Confirms Richard Donner's SUPERMAN and Tim Burton's BATMAN Exist in the Same Universe
The DC film mythos just got a lot more interesting and DC Comics has confirmed that Richard Donner’s 1978 film Superman and Tim Burton’s 1989 film Batman actually exist in the same universe.
The versions of these characters made their way back into the world of DC Comics and in a recent one-shot comic titled Dark Crisis: Big Bang, it officially canonized several movies, television shows, and even video games inspired by DC.
There’s a montage sequence in the story that sees The Flash run through several different universes — including one, which is called Earth-789. In this universe, it shows Michael Keaton's Batman and Jack Nicholson's Joker posed together.
This Earth-789 is also referenced in the multiverse map at the end of the issue, and that map lists it as a world where "Superman and Supergirl are Earth's only powered heroes [and] Batman's parents [were] killed by the Joker."
So, this means that the events of Donner’s Superman movie and Burton’s Batman movie, along with their sequels, spinoffs, and comic- tie-ins, all exist within the same universe! I just thought that was super cool and wanted to share it with you! What do you think about this confirmation?
Dark Crisis: Big Bang #1 comes from from Mark Waid, Dan Jurgens, Norm Rapmund, Federico Blee, and Troy Peteri.
