DC Reportedly Eyeing SUPERMAN Spinoffs for Mister Terrific and Jimmy Olsen

James Gunn’s Superman hit theaters toiday, but DC Studios is already thinking bigger with expanding the stories of characters the film introduces.

According to a recent report from The Wall Street Journal, DC Studios co-head and Gunn is considering spinoff series that would spotlight two standout characters from the upcoming film including Mister Terrific (played by Edi Gathegi) and Jimmy Olsen (played by Skyler Gisondo).

Gisondo’s Jimmy Olsen is a lot of fun in this movie, delivering a surprising and hilarious character arc in the film. I could totally see him getting his own show. Plus, Olsen’s Daily Planet gig offers a perfect excuse to bring in a whole rogues’ gallery of newsroom characters and Metropolis misfits.

As for Mister Terrific, he was a cool character! Gathegi’s take on the character is a highlight, and I loved his deadpan humor. He’s also the only Justice Gang member not already tied to an HBO Max project.

Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner is headed to both Lanterns and Peacemaker, while Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl will also show up in Peacemaker. That leaves Mister Terrific wide open for more interesting storytelling.

To be clear, none of this is officially greenlit. As the Journal notes, Gunn is considering these projects, and the film’s box office performance and fan response will likely decide how far these ideas go.
