DC Studios Reportedly Searching for an Unknown Mediterranean Actress to Play DCU’s Wonder Woman
DC Studios appears to be moving quickly on its next big superhero projects after the success of Superman, and Wonder Woman is one of the films at top of the list. Recent reports suggest the studio is fast-tracking a new film centered on Diana, which could make it the next DCU movie to roll into production after Clayface.
A writer is already working on the script, and if this project is now a major priority for Warner Bros. and DC, it’s not hard to imagine that casting could be underway. According to industry insider Jeff Sneider on this week’s episode of The Hot Mic, the studio is reportedly on the hunt for an unknown actress to take on the role of Wonder Woman.
Sneider shared: “I’ve asked around to see if they might want to go an unexpected route by possibly casting someone Black or Latina, and was told it would more than likely be someone of Mediterranean descent — but a Black actress may wind up playing the lead in the Paradise Lost Max series.”
This approach makes sense for James Gunn’s vision of the DCU. Gunn has been open about introducing fresh faces into iconic roles rather than relying on established A-list stars. Of course, “unknown” doesn’t necessarily mean completely new to the screen, but fans hoping for popular picks like Melissa Barrera or Adria Arjona might be disappointed if this report holds true.
Speculation about Arjona heated up recently when fans noticed Gunn following the Andor star on social media. Gunn quickly addressed the rumor, saying, “You know, I follow Adria on Instagram. And everyone came out, ‘He just followed her. That means she’s Wonder Woman.’ She’d be a great Wonder Woman, by the way. But she was in a movie I made, seven years ago. We’ve been friends and have known each other since that time. So, I followed her then, I didn’t just follow her [recently].”
If these reports are accurate, who will step into the boots and tiara of the DCU’s Wonder Woman? A Mediterranean actress makes sense for Diana’s origins, and casting an unknown talent could give the character a fresh start. For now, fans will have to wait and see who emerges as the new face of the Amazonian warrior.
