DC Studios Shifts CLAYFACE to October 2026 as PRACTICAL MAGIC 2 Slides into September

DC Studios is making a few strategic calendar tweaks, and it means fans will need to practice a little patience. The studio has officially moved Clayface off its original September slot and into late October 2026, while Warner Bros. has nudged Practical Magic 2 into the space it left behind.

The DC film was previously set to arrive on September 11 but will now open on October 23. The shift might actually work in its favor as this is a darker, horror-inspired film.

Clayface centers on one of Gotham’s more unsettling villains, a shapeshifter whose story leans hard into body horror. The tone has been likened to something out of a Cronenberg nightmare rather than a traditional superhero romp.

James Watkins is directing the film, working from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini. Rising star Tom Rhys Harries plays Matt Hagen, an actor whose life collapses after his face is disfigured, while Naomie Ackie co-stars as the scientist he turns to for help.

James Gunn and Peter Safran, the current heads of DC Studios, are producing alongside Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris. The move comes as DC continues to rebuild momentum after the success of last summer’s Superman.

Originally, Clayface was going to go up against a fresh take on Sense and Sensibility. With the date change, it now lands in a slot previously held by Warner Bros.’ Remain, which has been pushed to 2027.

That late October weekend is shaping up to be competitive, with an untitled Jordan Peele project from Universal and the Rosamund Pike thriller Wife and Dog also set to debut.

With Clayface vacating September 11, Warner Bros. has moved Practical Magic 2 into that date. The sequel was initially scheduled for September 18. Directed by Susanne Bier, the long-awaited follow-up reunites original stars Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, bringing the Owens sisters back to the big screen for another round of witchy chaos.
