DC's BLACK CANARY Movie Is Reportedly Still Being Developed for HBO Max
Ready to be even more confused about what’s going on over at Warner Bros. Discovery regarding their DC films? The studio already pulled the plug on Batgirl, and one of the main reasons behind that was “to protect the brand,” according to CEO David Zaslav. He also said that the DC movie projects were being geared toward theatrical releases and not HBO Max originals.
But, TVLine is reporting that a Warner Bros. spokesperson has confirmed that the Birds of Prey spinoff film Black Canary is still in development for HBO Max. I was definitely a lot more excited about watching the canceled Batgirl movie! There’s no reason given as to why Black Canary gets to press forward.
Jurnee Smollett is attached to reprise her role as Dinah Lance/Black Canary from the Birds of Prey movie. Lovecraft Country’s Misha Green is writing the script for the film. The film hasn’t even started shooting yet, so there’s still time for WB to cancel it if they wanted to. But, as of right now, it’s still got the greenlight.
It just doesn’t make sense to me why DC is fine with this project moving forward and not Batgirl. What are your thoughts?
