DC's BLUE BEETLE Movie Casts WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS Actor Harvey Guillén and More
The development of DC’s Blue Beetle movie is pressing forward and some new casting announcements have been shared. What We Do in the Shadows actor Harvey Guillén has been cast in the film and joining him are Brazilian actress Bruna Marquezine, and Belissa Escobedo.
Corba Kai star Xolo Maridueña was previously cast in the lead role of Jaime Reyes in the film, which is being directed by Angel Manuel Soto (Charm City Kings) and written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (Scarface remake and Miss Bala.)
Newcomer Marquezine is set to take on the role of the female lead and love interest Penny, Escobedo will play Milagros Reyes, the younger sister of Jaime Reyes, and as of right now, there are no details to share regarding Guillen’s role in the film.
The film will center around Mexican-American teenager Jaime Reyes, who is the third character to assume the mantle of the Blue Beetle after Dan Garret and Ted Kord.
In the story, “Jaime Reyes discovered the Blue Beetle scarab on the way home from school with two of his best friends Paco and Brenda, half-buried in a disused lot. Reyes took the scarab home, curious as to what it might be. That night, the scarab came alive, and grafted itself to the base of Jaime’s spine, and provided him with a suit of extraterrestrial armor that can be modified to enhance his speed and strength, as well as to create weapons, wings, and shields.”
Blue Beetle is set to be released theatrically on August 18th, 2023.
