DC's Harley Quinn and Birds of Prey Movie Moves Forward with Up-and-Coming Director Cathy Yan
Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are moving forward with their big screen adaptation of their untitled Harley Quinn and Birds of Prey film! They have hired up-and-coming director Cathy Yan to direct the movie making her the second female filmmaker to jump into DC movie club.
It's also said that that it will be the next film that Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn is a a part of. There aren’t really any details released for the film yet, but Batgirl, Black Canary, Huntress, and Lady Blackhawk are all characters that will most likely be involved with it in some capacity.
Yan only has one small indie film under her belt called Dead Pigs, which I wasn't familiar with until now. Just in case you're interested in what the movie is like, I included a clip from it below. Going from a little indie film like Dead Pigs to a big-budget tentpole film like Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey, is going be a huge adjustment, especially for someone without a lot of experience, but I hope that she can pull it off and give us a kick ass DC movie!
According to Deadline, "despite being a new talent, Yan’s presentation for Birds of Prey was exceptional, and Robbie held firm to her desire for this film to be directed by a woman."
Well, whatever her presentation was, it obviously worked! It’ll be interesting to see what kind of story she has planned for this film and how they will utilize these characters. She definitely has a lot of material to play with, and it has the potential to be a lot of fun. The script for the film is being writen by Christina Hodson, who wrote the Transformers spinoff Bumblebee, and was also just hired to write the Batgirl movie.
What do you think about WB's hiring Cathy Yan to direct this movie?
